Saratoga: Get Stormy, Turallure work for Baruch

Get Stormy and Turallure completed preparations for next Friday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Bernard Baruch Handicap with sharp workouts over the Oklahoma turf course Friday.

Get Stormy, who missed the Fourstardave because of what turned out to be a minor tendon issue, went six furlongs in 1:13.59, getting his last three furlongs in 35.28 seconds under jockey Ramon Dominguez. He galloped out seven-eighths in 1:25.86. After the work, Get Stormy wheeled and unseated Dominguez, who was able to maintain a hold of the reins so Get Stormy didn’t run free.

“He worked good,” trainer Tom Bush said. “I couldn’t have been more pleased except, pulling up, he wheeled and got Ramon off. I wasn’t too happy about that.”

Get Stormy, who won the Bernard Baruch last year, has worked twice since being forced to miss the Fourstardave.

Meanwhile, Turallure worked a half-mile in 50.50 seconds, getting his last quarter in 24.76 seconds under jockey Julien Leparoux. Turallure finished fifth in the Fourstardave, beaten three lengths by Sidney’s Candy. Before that, he won the Opening Verse Stakes at Churchill in June, beating next-out stakes winner Tajweed.
Charles Lopresti, trainer of Turallure, said he wasn’t looking for anything faster than what he got.

“I told Julien, ‘Let him cruise around there. Don’t really ask him for much. If he’s not fit enough now, he’ll never be,’ ” Lopresti said. “I didn’t want a bullet work or anything.”

Others pointing to the Bernard Baruch are Baryshnikov, Blues Street, Hymn Book, Interaction, Moryba, and possibly Beau Choix, Gathering Cloud, and Sleepless Knight.
