Saratoga: Flash Forward much the best in My Flag

The 3-year-old filly Flash Forward, ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., scores by 8 1/4 lengths in the My Flag Stakes.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -   Trainer Dominick Schettino expected Flash Forward to run another big race in Wednesday’s $100,000 My Flag at Saratoga, but perhaps not as big as the dominant 8 1/4-length victory the improving 3-year-old filly registered over Toasting and four others in the 1 1/8-mile overnight stakes.

With jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. putting up a patient ride, Flash Forward rated off the early pace of Profetiza, moved up to the engage the leaders four wide entering the stretch, and then drew off with a flourish once settling for the drive. She completed nine furlongs on a fast track in 1:49.98.

Toasting tracked the pace from the outset, tried to rally in company with the winner, proved no match while drifting in early stretch but maintained a safe 1 3/4-length advantage over the tiring Profetiza to be second.

Sister State, the 2-1 favorite, gave way steadily after six furlongs to finish fourth, followed by Grande Mere and Skyfall.

Flash Forward, a daughter of Curlin owned by MeB Racing Stables and the Brooklyn Boyz Stables, paid $6.30.

“She’s kept developing all summer,” said Schettino. “She’s actually been moving forward since we ran her in the Demoiselle back in December. She was training very well coming into the race and has just been putting everything together as she’s matured.”

Schettino said he had nothing picked out for Flash Forward’s next start.
