SARATOGA SPRING, N.Y. - After winning Friday’s Yaddo Stakes for New York-breds, Dayatthespa will target the Grade 1, $400,000 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 5, trainer Chad Brown said Saturday.

Dayatthespa is 2 for 2 at Keeneland, having won the Grade 3 Appalachian and Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth over the course last year.

Brown seemed to be leaning toward training Dayatthespa up to the First Lady, though he hasn’t ruled out perhaps running her once in between.

Espinoza breaks nose in spill

Jockey Jose Espinoza suffered a broken nose as a result of a spill during the running of Saturday’s first race. Espinoza was aboard Heading to Toga, who after finishing fifth in the race broke down, unseating Espinoza. Heading to Toga was euthanized on track.

Espinoza was taken off the track on a stretcher and was transported to Albany Medical Center, according to his agent, Nick Soulis.

Rajiv Maragh was also unseated when his mount, Guyana Star, fell over Heading to Toga. Neither Maragh nor Guyana Star was injured.
