Dave Litfin's Analysis [BEST BET: Asiya (4th race)]

Links

1 ISN'TSHEWONDERFULL found her best stride belatedly and earned a competitive figure first time out this year, before catching a muddy track and racing wide in a turf route from post 12; this will be her first dirt start wearing blinkers. SOUL OPPOSITION just missed after a prolonged battle when last on dirt Feb. 18; no published works for seven weeks after May 26 grass race vs. Image of Noon, who has since run second twice in N.Y. Stallion Series events. ROSIE'S SONG looks like she wants a clear early lead judging from initial try in blinkers; lost position at the start and raced wide when last seen two months ago. 2 AINTEASYBEINGGREEN will take on the boys again after setting the pace in her debut when solidly backed July 5; must deal with STALAGMITE through opening stages. HARD RUMOR is a half-brother to several multiple turf winners including 10-time grass winner High Cry and $154K grass earner Beebe Lake; hot connections. CAROLINIAN flashed some ability in two starts at Belmont, the second one against Sanford winner and Saratoga Special runner-up Wiried Bryan; dam has produced one turf winner. 3 MR. STYLE ran two big races at Saratoga as a 2-year-old, and though things never panned out after that, he seems like a dangerous turf-to-dirt dropdown adding blinkers and picking up a hot rider; now or never. NAVAJO CA LO is the only other experienced runner moving down to $20K for the first time; edged forward to second straight Beyer top to begin current form cycle. BLOCKADE RUNNER has posted bullet works twice on dirt recently; homebred needn't be the second coming of Hindoo to make presence felt. 4 After a blowout maiden win in the slop late last year, ASIYA had a rough trip four weeks later when she broke awkwardly and clipped heels in the stretch behind Alabama favorite Princess of Sylmar; first-time Lasix for return and meeting no such rival today. The New York-bred HERE'S ZEALICIOUS had a productive winter campaign, winning three straight before hanging in there to deep stretch vs. multiple stakes winner Sunny Desert in the Broadway; pace factor with MOMENTARY MAGIC and POW WOW WOW. A contested pace could enable CHANCE ENCOUNTER to pick up some pieces late; win first off the claim opening week earned her best figure in a year. Closer Looks >>

5 J. QUIRK chased Spinaway-bound Stopchargingmaria from gate to wire and was well clear of the rest in promising first try opening day; has easier early adversary in FRIENDS PRO, the only other experienced entrant. DELIGHTFUL LIZ sold for 21 times Limehouse's stud fee in April; bullet works at Fair Hill on dirt and synthetic for Tony Dutrow, who unveiled In Trouble (7-1) to win 2YO bow here Aug. 10. CYNICAL STORM is the first runner out of a stakes-winning dam who earned $234K; eight juvenile winners for barn so far. 6 If the Stroll overnight stakes is switched to dirt at 1 1/8 miles, SAINT VIGEUR has won or placed all starts except for the Pilgrim on yielding-to-soft turf, and comes off his best figure saving the place in the Dwyer. Otherwise, BALANCE THE BOOKS finished strongly too late when back on grass for the first time since tough-trip third in BC Juvenile Turf; Grade 2 winner this course. I'LL CALL couldn't stave off HARDEST CORE in meet opener at this distance, but puts blinkers on and may be able to dictate an easy pace. MILLS loses Joel Rosario to WINNING CAUSE, who ran a strong final quarter to take restricted Sir Cat on the inner course; either or both may contend in wide open affair. Closer Looks >>

7 SABOULI is likely to offer better stretch punch in this mile race with some pace up front than she did behind moderate fractions at 1 3/16 miles last out; only class dropper in the lineup. HOLIDAY'S JEWEL reaffirmed her affinity for Saratoga turf when much the best beating DUST EM MICK in their recent clash; claimed out of that race by live outfit. LA STRADA was victimized by slow fractions racing for first time in 10 weeks at Monmouth; beaten choice will be a much more appetizing price today. 8 GREAT MILLS makes first start since taking a high-end optional claimer Jan. 20, and first at Saratoga since winning 2011 Quick Call with what was then a new Beyer top; right there to midstretch BC Turf Sprint at 6 1/2 furlongs. VARSITY rushed up after flat-footed start and finished willingly in Fiddlers Patriot; could be peaking third time out since Dubai excursion. STRONG IMPACT got a great inside trip to run down a drifting-out Tightend Touchdown in the Fiddlers Patriot, his third win on this course; hard-knocking veteran is susceptible to a regression after that 100 Beyer top in 34th outing. 9 All but one of these starter/optional claiming routers come off a Beyer in the 76-82 range, so it may be advisable to cast a wide net in multi-race exotics. HORNED FROG has been freshened since three consecutive wins in $5K starter allowances at Churchill Downs, the latest a hard-fought decision over Runaway Pepper, who has won/placed eight of 10 this year; eight wins from 13 dirt starts.NEVADA has the benefit of a winning race over the track at the distance; indeed, he's the only 1 1/8-mile winner besides the choice.THUNDER QUAY just missed a fifth straight win last out at Parx vs. Chad Brown-trained Snake Pit; bullet work Saturday before leaving Parx. 10 MYPERFECTVALENTINE returned with a Beyer pair-up on dirt & turf at Belmont, and takes third straight price drop in search of winning level; many of today's rivals have lost repeatedly for $25K or less. TIZALLHEART comes off top-figure placing setting the pace first time off a claim; barn had terrific first half of the meet. LAKEVIEW LADY has been sidelined since Mar. 1 claim; showed ability in turf debut last fall, first-time Lasix and dropping 50% in price from cozy post. BARGAINING TABLE, freshened, is in the mix if she rebounds to penultimate effort. Closer Looks >>
