Saratoga: Awesome Feather works toward late-summer return

Awesome Feather, the undefeated 2-year-old champion filly of 2010, worked four furlongs in 49.29 seconds Tuesday over the Oklahoma training track and appears ahead of schedule for a late summer or early fall return to the races.

Awesome Feather, who hasn’t run since taking the Sunshine Millions Distaff in January, went her first quarter in 24.97 seconds and her second quarter in 24.32 while in hand.

Trainer Chad Brown said the work was “very impressive” for a second work back for a filly who missed some training time due to a physical issue. Brown, whose target with Awesome Feather is the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, has been impressed with how Awesome Feather looks physically.

“Instead of being a filly she’s like a mare now,” Brown said. “And it may give her even a little more power. From what I’m seeing in her gallops and breezes these first two breezes back, she’s carrying excellent conditioning on her now.”
