Twirling Candy, the runner-up in the Pacific Classic on Aug. 28, will start in the $250,000 Goodwood Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on Oct. 1 as a prep to a Breeders’ Cup race to be determined later, trainer John Sadler said on Sunday. Sadler said the Breeders’ Cup Classic or the Dirt Mile, which is run around one turn, would be considered for Twirling Candy. Owned by a partnership, Twirling Candy won the Grade 2 Californian Stakes at Hollywood Park in June and was third in the Hollywood Gold Cup in July earlier this summer. “We’ll keep an open mind,” Sadler said of the Breeders’ Cup. n the Pacific Classic over 1 1/4 miles, Twirling Candy was beaten a head by Acclamation in a thrilling finish. Hurry Home Clover earns shot at Norfolk Hurry Home Clover is bound for the $250,000 Norfolk Stakes over 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Oct. 1 after winning his first start around two turns against maidens on Saturday. Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Hurry Home Clover led throughout a race over a mile and won by 1 1/4 lengths. A colt by Bellamy Road, Hurry Home Clover had previously finished eighth, fourth, and third in maiden races for sprinters at Hollywood Park and Del Mar. “He’s just starting to figure it out,” trainer Peter Miller said. “The farther he goes, the better he does.”
