ARCADIA, Calif. – Swiss Lake Yodeler overcame her outside post and wore down Moving Desert to post a well-earned victory Friday in the 24th running of the $200,000 Golden State Juvenile Fillies on the Breeders’ Cup undercard at Santa Anita. With Julien Leparoux aboard for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, Swiss Lake Yodeler returned $18 after finishing the one-mile distance in 1:37.58 over a fast track. Owned and bred by Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams, Swiss Lake Yodeler broke sharply from the outside post in a field of 10 California-bred fillies before settling in a good stalking spot while kept just a bit wide. Down the stretch, after Moving Desert had surged to the front, Swiss Lake Yodeler overtook her with a final spurt, prevailing by 2 1/4 lengths. It was just her third career start, following a debut win in maiden claiming company and a runner-up finish in a starter-allowance, both sprints. Rovenna finished third, and Harlington’s Rose was fourth. The $2 exacta (10-9) paid $84.60; the $1 trifecta (10-9-3) returned $961.50; and the 10-cent superfecta (10-9-3-6) was worth $467.77.
