Santa Anita: Politicallycorrect closes to win Damascus Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Politicallycorrect closed from off the pace to win his second consecutive stakes in Saturday’s $100,000 Damascus Stakes at Santa Anita.

The winner of the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby over 1 1/8 miles at Remington Park on Sept. 29, Politicallycorrect reverted to a sprint Saturday and won the seven-furlong Damascus Stakes in his first start in California.

Ridden by Joel Rosario, Politicallycorrect ($8.80) was timed in 1:20.86, finishing 1 1/4 lengths in front of Private Zone, who was part of the pace. Brother Francis finished third in the field of six 3-year-olds.

Private Zone and Mile High Magic dueled through fractions of 22.16 and 43.88 seconds through the first half-mile. Mile High Magic faded from contention in the final furlong. Politicallycorrect was fourth early and closed with a wide run to reach the front in the final sixteenth.

Politicallycorrect is owned by breeders Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey. A gelding by Kitten’s Joy, Politicallycorect has won 4 of 13 starts and $411,375. Earlier this year, he was second in the Ohio Derby at Thistledown.

Congratulations, Politicallycorrect, on the exciting win in Saturday's Damascus Stakes. Joel Rosario placed him strategically off the pace and came roaring to victory in the final strides, just ahead of Private Zone, who ran a game race of his own. Congratulations to Politicallycorrect and his connections on scoring a very nice win.
