Santa Anita: Pick six carryover of $94,233 for Monday

ARCADIA, Calif. – An upset win by Spellbound ($35) in Sunday’s Grade 2 La Canada Stakes has led to a pick six carryover of $94,233 for Monday’s nine-race program.

Monday’s program begins at 12:30 p.m. Pacific, with the pick six covering the fourth through ninth races. The pick six races do not include the day’s stakes race, the $75,000 San Pedro Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters. The San Pedro Stakes is the second race.

The pick six races have solid fields of nine, nine, and a maximum of 12-horse fields in the final four races.

There were early scratches Sunday in two of those races. In the seventh race, Gala Moon is withdrawn from the also-eligible list. In the ninth race, Cheeky Stone is scratched.

Early DD with 5 horses, yet this Nube guy won't give us rolling DD where there are bigger fields......BUT, he is out promoting $1 beers...wants to have people drinking & then DRIVING.....GREAT PROMO....He should be running a bar & not a race track....

What a joke the La Canada was. Too fast on the front and Mike Smith gives the whip once on the right side entering the stretch which appears to work and then for some reason just decides to wave the stick on the left side the rest of the way, then gives up before the line. Looked all to set up.

Spellbound is a very nice horse, and yes she needs fast fractions to help her. But he race was hardly a joke. You will hear more from Spellbound this year.

Agreed. Bejarano cut off Smith, on purpose. And Smith always lets a horse relax far too long after a troubled start. So now he's way too far back, on a stalker, and Bejarano gets into a stupid speed duel on the other favorite. All set up perfectly for the two closers in the field, who finished 1 and 2 and went off at 14/1 and 12/1. Fluke race, and Spellbound is a strong fade the next time out.

Sure, load up the pick six with lots OF HORSES TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO HIT. What the track doesn't realize is that "punters" will run out of money BEFORE THEY'LL EVER hit a pick six. That's crazy. Make it easier to hit the Pick six, or pick four. Heck, the punters will only churn that money back to the track in the form of MORE HANDLE. Sheesh, wake up!

That comment is just all sorts of wrong. I've hit plenty of pick three's and four's with big fields. It's called handicapping. I prefer to bet those exotics with big fields, if I do my homework I may find a separator that can enhance my payoff. It isn't hard to find races with six horses in them, but lets not complain about big fields.
