Santa Anita pick six carryover of $115,862 for Thursday's card

ARCADIA, Calif.- If it’s Thursday, there must be a pick six carryover at Santa Anita.

For the second consecutive week, the jackpot bet begins on Thursday with a six-figure head start. No one hit the pick six on Sunday, resulting in a carryover of $115,862 for Thursday. The carryover was announced after Sunday’s eighth race, with one race remaining in the day.

Thursday, the pick six covers the typical third through eighth races on an eight-race program. For a race meeting that has struggled badly to attract full fields, Thursday’s card is more attractive.

The third race, a maiden race for California-breds over a mile on turf, drew eight. There are eight maiden claimers in a sprint over 5 1/2 furlongs in the fourth.

The fifth race is a $25,000 claimer over a mile on turf. The race drew a field of nine, but the temporary rails are 30 feet from the permanent position, which will result in a maximum field of eight runners.

In the sixth race, there are 10 runners in an optional claimer over six furlongs.

The seventh race is on turf, an optional claimer over a mile. Similar to the fifth race, the race drew 13 entrants, but will have only eight starters.

The last race, for maiden claimers, drew a field of nine running six furlongs.
