Santa Anita: Pick six carryover of $101,931 for Monday's card
Email
ARCADIA, Calif. - A string of five consecutive losing favorites at Santa Anita on Sunday has led to a pick six carryover of $101,931 for Monday’s nine-race program.
The pick six carryover was confirmed after Sunday’s eighth race, with one leg of the bet remaining.
Monday’s pick six races include several large fields, and the 2013 debut of Beholder, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2012. Beholder will be a heavy favorite to win the seventh race, the $150,000 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies over 6 1/2 furlongs.
The pick six covers the fourth through ninth races.
In the fourth race, a one-mile race for maiden claimers, Debits and Credits and Stanley’s Flyer were withdrawn on Sunday morning. The race lacks a definitive favorite, with Mind the Master the 7-2 morning-line favorite.
In the fifth race, Big Wags will be favored in an $8,000 claimer over a mile, but has drawn the outside in a field of nine.
There are two turf sprints in the pick six - the sixth and eighth races, divisions of an optional claimer for California-breds. In the sixth, an optional claimer, Cayambe is the 5-2 favorite, but breaks from the rail against nine rivals.
Beholder has seven rivals in the Santa Ynez Sakes, including the impressive maiden race winner Dawn’s Charm.
In the eighth, Dixieland Blues is a lukewarm choice in a field of 10.
Don’t Rock Me, who drew the rail, was withdrawn on Sunday.
In the last race, a six-furlong race for maiden claimers, Judge Carr, winless in five starts, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite. Talk the Walk(9-2) merits support from post 7 following a second in a similar race on Dec. 1.
Best Bets
GLASS ART sure looks well spotted for his first start since November, as he lands in a grass route that's decidedly short on speed, and he gets the services of Joe Bravo, who specializes in these scenarios; he scored here last year in his seasonal bow in a very similar spot, as that was another race light on pace, and he can steal this if he's in fact able to slow things down up front.
