Santa Anita: Longshot triggers $100,000 pick six carryover for Sunday
Email
ARCADIA, Calif. - An upset win by Quiet Force ($57.80) in Saturday’s ninth race has led to a pick six carryover of $100,001 for Sunday’s program at Santa Anita.
The pick six races are the fourth through ninth races on Sunday. The program begins at 12:30 p.m. Pacific.
The pick six races feature three races over about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course and three one-mile races on the main track.
The biggest fields are the fourth and sixth, maiden race for California-breds on the hillside turf course. Each of those races has 10 entrants.
The shortest-priced runners on the morning-line for Sunday’s pick six races are Branding, a 6-5 chance in an allowance race for 3-year-old fillies in the seventh race, and Pure Blush who is 6-5 in a maiden claimer over a mile in the ninth race.
Branding is part of a field of six that also includes Qiaona, the winner of the $300,000 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes for California-breds on Jan. 26. She is a 3-1 chance to win against open company.
Sunday’s feature race is the $100,000 Sensational Star Handicap for California-breds on the hillside turf course. The field is wide open, with Circa’sgoldengear the 7-2 morning-line favorite over Stoney Fleece and Cat Talk in the field of eight.
Best Bets
BIG JOHN B takes a short drop off the claim and layoff, which could be viewed as a negative, but he has some decent works for this return and he has a decent-sized Beyer edge against this group; tactical speed should help him work out a favorable trip. SKIFFS BREWMEISTER merits respect off that last win and figure, his best yet; dangerous if he's able to take another step forward. BRODY BOY finished off the board in his turf debut but he earned a decent figure despite running 7th there, and he did endure a fairly tough trip; most recent workout at Parx indicates he retains his form.
