ARCADIA, Calif. - Lady of Shamrock won her stakes debut in Friday’s $81,000 Blue Norther Stakes, displaying a stylish turn of foot in the final furlong of the one-mile turf race for 2-year-old fillies.

The victory was the first stakes win for owner Kosta Hronis of Delano, Calif., and it came two years after he formed a stable.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Lady of Shamrock ($5.60) won by 2 3/4 lengths over Batalha, finishing in 1:34.24. Byrama, a European import, finished a troubled third. She broke slowly and was in traffic in the stretch.

Gomez had Lady of Shamrock in eighth in the field of nine for the first six furlongs, well behind Coup de Coeur, who set a brisk pace of 22.11 and 45 seconds. Lady of Shamrock made up 7 1/2 lengths in the last quarter-mile to reach the front near the sixteenth pole.

Trained by John Sadler, Lady of Shamrock was bought privately after winning a maiden race on turf at Churchill Downs in her third career start on Nov. 12.
