Trainer Richard Mandella is pointing Jimmy Creed to the $150,000 Potrero Grande Stakes over 6 1/2 furlongs April 6.
Jimmy Creed has not started since winning the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes in December due to illness. The Potrero Grande could lead to a start in the $750,000 Metropolitan Handicap over a mile at Belmont Park on May 27.
The Met Mile could be in the plans for Sahara Sky, the winner of the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes on Feb. 23.
Owner Kim Lloyd and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer are considering the Potrero Grande or the $400,000 Carter Handicap over seven furlongs at Aqueduct on April 6 for Sahara Sky’s next start, Hollendorfer said.
Little Jerry to try turf
Little Jerry, fourth in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on Feb. 2, will switch to turf for his next start, trainer Richard Baltas said.
Baltas is hoping to start Little Jerry in an allowance race in the coming weeks, with an eye on stakes later this summer. The Lewis Stakes was won by Flashback, the favorite for Saturday’s Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita.
“I think he ran against one of the best horses in the country,” Baltas said.

MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
