A Jealous Woman has recovered from illness and will run in Sunday's $150,000 Santa Ana Stakes.

A Jealous Woman was a sick mare when she finished seventh in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Handicap on turf Feb. 18.

“She had an infection in her throat,” said Eddie Meza, husband and assistant to trainer Francis Meza. “She couldn’t breathe.”

A Jealous Woman has recovered and will start in a short field in Sunday’s $150,000 Santa Ana Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/8 miles on turf. Owned by a partnership, A Jealous Woman could play a key role as a pacesetter. Earlier this week, she received a clean bill of health, Eddie Meza said.

“We checked her throat four days ago, and the doctor cleared her to go,” he said. “She could get an easy lead. If someone wants to go, we can sit off the speed.”

The Grade 2 Santa Ana is led by Lady of Shamrock, the winner of two Grade 1 races for 3-year-old fillies in 2012 – the American Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park and the Del Mar Oaks. Trained by John Sadler for Kosta Hronis, Lady of Shamrock was fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf here last November in her most recent start.
