Santa Anita: A Jealous Woman back at full strength in Megahertz victory
Email
ARCADIA, Calif. - A Jealous Woman, who was out of training for a little more than a week last month because of a bruised foot, won her second stakes in her last three starts in Saturday’s $92,500 Megahertz Stakes at Santa Anita.
A Jealous Woman ($6.60) gave jockey Brice Blanc his first winner of the meeting with his 24th mount. The second choice in the betting in a field of seven fillies and mares, A Jealous Woman closed from third to take the lead on the turn. She fought off a stubborn threat through the stretch from 9-1 Byrony and 9-5 favorite In the Starts to win by a neck over Byrony in 1:33.09.
In the Stars held third, followed by Hard to Resist, Lady Ten, Plaza de Indias, and Vamo a Galupiar.
A Jealous Woman won the Swingtime Stakes here in October and was second in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes on Nov. 4. She was being prepared for a start in the Robert Frankel Stakes on Dec. 30 when she bruised a foot. A Jealous Woman resumed full training in January.
Owned by Three Cent Stable and trained by Francis Meza, A Jealous Woman, a 7-year-old California-bred mare by Muqtarib, has won 9 of 19 starts and $443,856.
Best Bets
DRINK OR SINK went too fast on the lead last time before fading on the turf at Tampa, and should be less aggressive here with blinkers off. Olguin was aboard for his good fall races on the Poly, and should have him closing at a square price in his second start of the year. GOOD BETTER BEST finished up the track behind two next-out winners when he tried the dirt for the first time March 30 at Gulfstream. He hasn't faced this easy a field in a while, and is no stranger to filling out the exactor.
