Santa Anita and the HRTV racing network are conducting a documentary contest on Santa Anita racing this spring open to film students and filmmakers.
The program submissions must be five minutes or less and based on Santa Anita. Entitled “A Day at the Races,” the competition offers prizes of $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000 for the first three entries selected by a panel of racing and entertainment judges. A $10,000 first prize will be awarded to the winner of an online poll.
Applications to enter must be made in person, with the first day of shooting scheduled for Feb. 9. Shooting will continue through March 25, with contest submissions due by March 28. The winners will be announced April 22, closing day of the winter-spring meeting.
The general entry fee by Feb. 15 is $200 and $50 for students with valid identification. After Feb. 15, the entry fees rise to $250 and $75. Further information is available at Santaanitalive.com.
Best Bets
RON C led until deep stretch in his only 2011 appearance, in a maiden special route on the grass, which was won by future restricted stakes winner Crown's Path. He has a sprint prep under his girth on Polytrack, and could make all the running in this one-mile turf route, with the addition of Lasix. DR. HARKNESS is bred for the grass on both sides of his pedigree, and his trainer has solid numbers pertaining to this situation. DRINK OR SINK placed in both of his turf starts at Tampa during the winter, and could better this projected placing.
