Santa Anita: Demonic unlikely for San Vicente

Demonic is unlikely to start in Sunday's San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita.

Demonic, winner of a seven-furlong maiden race in his debut Jan. 13, is unlikely to start in Sunday’s $150,000 San Vicente Stakes for 3-year-olds over seven furlongs, trainer John Sadler said Tuesday.

Sadler is leaning toward running Demonic in the $300,000 San Felipe Stakes over 1 1/16 miles on March 9. The Grade 2 San Felipe is a key prep for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby over 1 1/8 miles on April 6.

“I’m leaning toward the two turns,” Sadler said.

Owned by Lee and Susan Searing, Demonic worked six furlongs in 1:13 at Santa Anita on Monday.

The Grade 2 San Vicente field is dominated by recent maiden race winners seeking their first stakes wins, including Belvin, Caballo del Cielo, Mudflats, and Treasury Bill.

what's up with the names of these three year olds this season? Violence; Demonic?

All the good names are taken.

Watch out for Treasury Bill, he won like he was toying with the field. Plus, he is trained by Ron Ellis who knows how to get a good horse up the ladder............................if this horse is in this race, then he belongs here......................................!

Very true.......Ron spots em where they belong. The article states he's being pointed to the San Vicente though, not the San Felipe.

was also in the mud against a weak field. But he did it nicely. Won't be able to be so far back in this field and beat a horse like Belvin

Glad to hear it.....go for the points! Two turns seems a much better prep for the SA Derby anyhow. Best of luck to the connections!

I figured he would run in all three like Creative Cause or Silver Charm and Free House.

They all had the benefit of a fitness 'foundation' from their 2yr old campaigns.
