Santa Anita: Daytona retains Grade 3 ranking

ARCADIA, Calif. - Santa Anita racing officials were informed Thursday by the American Graded Stakes Committee that the Daytona Stakes run Dec. 29 will retain Grade 3 status, despite being switched from grass to dirt. Turf stakes moved to the main track are automatically downgraded one level, but also subject to re-evaluation.

The committee determined the Grade 3 status of the Daytona “will be retroactively reinstated, and that the race will be recorded as a Grade 3 event.” The Daytona was won by Comma to the Top, a Grade 1 winner and multiple graded stakes winner. The 6 1/2-furlong stakes was run over a wet-fast track.
