Santa Anita carryover hits $587,000

EmailARCADIA, Calif. -- Many racing fans won't be able to party quite as late as they might desire on Monday night because a huge pick six carryover of $587,644.60 will be awaiting them on Tuesday's New Year's Day card at Santa Anita.

The carryover was the result of a longshot-filled New Year's Eve program, which included Latin Lobo at $73.40 in the fifth race and Ever a Friend ($17.20) in the featured Impressive Luck Handicap. There were no tickets alive in the pick six after the fifth leg.

No one hit the pick six on Sunday, either, so this is a two-day carryover.

Tuesday's card begins at noon Pacific time. It is a 10-race card, so the pick six will begin with the fifth race, a wide-open downhill turf sprint for $40,000 female claimers that has a full field of 12.

There are two stakes on Tuesday's card, but the El Conejo is being run early on the card and is not part of the pick six. The ninth race, however, is the Monrovia Handicap, a downhill turf sprint for older fillies and mares, with a field of 10.

The pick six concludes with a 14-horse field of $25,000 maiden claimers.
