Bright Thought is being pointed to the Arlington Million, with perhaps a prep in the Eddie Read at Del Mar.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Bright Thought, winner of the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes on March 16 in his stakes debut, will be pointed to the Arlington Million in August, co-owner Alex Venneri and trainer Jorge Gutierrez said Friday.

Bright Thought was considered a candidate for the $500,000 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on May 4 in the days after the San Luis Rey, but is not expected to race again until mid-summer. Gutierrez said Friday that the 4-year-old Bright Thought will be jogged for 30 days before resuming more serious training.

“He’s a horse that needs firmer turf,” Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez is hoping to find such turf conditions at Arlington Park for the Arlington Million on Aug. 17.

A 4-year-old colt by Hat Trick, Bright Thought is likely to have a prep race in July, possibly in the $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar on July 20.

Major bummer. Looked like he could be controlling speed on the cutback against those being pointed to this race. Too bad.
