Sander Camillo beaten in Nell Gwyn

Email

Sander Camillo suffered a double loss at Newmarket on Wednesday as she dropped a decision to Scarlet Runner in the Group 3, $100,000 Nell Gwyn Stakes, at the same time surrendering favoritism for the 1000 Guineas to Finsceal Beo.

Scarlet Runner took the lead at the eighth pole, then held off a renewed challenge from early leader and odds-on favorite Sander Camillo to record a neck victory. The 7-1 Scarlet Runner was timed in 1:24.59 for the straight seven furlongs on good to firm ground.

The result caused some major shifts in the 1000 Guineas antepost bookmaking, as VC Bet made European juvenile filly champ Finsceal Beo their new 2-1 favorite. Sander Camillo was eased from 9-4 to 5-1, and Scarlet Runner was cut from 50-1 to 12-1.
