Sand Cove breezes in Steady Growth

Favored Sand Cove crushed his rivals in a quick clocking Saturday at Woodbine in the 14th running of the $125,400 .

My Bad set a lively pace in the mile and a sixteenth route, while Sand Cove stalked in second under Richard Dos Ramos.

Sand Cove took control exiting the far turn, and then drew away to prevail by four and three-quarter lengths in 1:42.69, a time which was just .47 second off the Polytrack record. Second choice Genius Kinshasa outran 14-1 outsider Lady's First Cat for second in the six-horse field of Ontario-sired runners.

Trainer Roger Attfield said Sand Cove was on the muscle leading up to the Steady Growth.

"I put smaller blinkers on him, because I thought he was a little too sharp," said Attfield. "He relaxed really well in the race. Richard rode him great, and he looked like a winner at the three-eighths pole."

Sand Cove ($5.20) collected $75,000 for owner Ralph Johnson.
