Sam Houston: Two turns for Term Sheet

Term Sheet, a three-length winner over open company last out in the $50,000 Sprint Handicap, will try to master two turns Saturday night when he moves back into the statebred ranks for the $35,000 Jersey Village at Sam Houston Race Park.

The 1 1/16-mile race drew eight older horses, including Agrivating General, runner-up in the Sprint Handicap, and Faxamillion, third at the distance in the $100,000 Star of Texas for statebreds in November.

Term Sheet is in the midst of a strong meet. He finished third in the $50,000 Spirit of Texas for statebreds in November. He returned a month later and won an allowance at seven furlongs, then he won the Sprint Handicap at the same distance Jan. 4.

Since that race, Term Sheet has worked sharply at Sam Houston, with a six-furlong drill in 1:14 on Feb. 12 and a four-furlong move in 48 seconds Feb. 19.

"He's doing awesome," said Steve Asmussen, who trains Term Sheet for Ackerley Brothers Farm.

Asmussen has given the mount to Jeremy Beasley, who moved his tack back to Texas from Florida on Friday, and will ride at Sam Houston, then Lone Star Park, which opens in April.

Beasley was the leading apprentice at Sam Houston in 1999.
