Sam Houston track report

Testify, who has won the $50,000 Sam Houston Turf Sprint Cup both times he has started in the race, in 2001 and 2003, is being pointed toward this year's running April 9, said his trainer, Randy Morse.

The Sprint Cup is one of two stakes on the undercard of the $200,000 Connally Breeders' Cup Turf, which is the richest race of the meet at Sam Houston.

Testify has been working at Oaklawn Park in preparation for his first start since August, when he ran third in an overnight handicap at Ellis Park. Now 8, Testify has won 10 races and $540,067 in his career.

* Stella Come Back won her fifth race of the Sam Houston meet last Saturday when she captured a five-furlong off-the-turf starter race. The win was her fourth straight, and she has won five of her last six starts. Her lone defeat during that period was a sixth in a one-mile race Dec. 21 at Delta. John Barger trains her for Len Z. Williams.

* Sam Houston will host a silent auction April 9 to benefit the Jockey Crisis Fund at Sam Houston, which helps injured riders and their families. The auction items include a flat-screen television, a photo of Smarty Jones signed by trainer John Servis and jockey Stewart Elliott, offerings from the Houston Texans football team and Houston Astros baseball team, and a breeding to stallion Captain Countdown.
