Sam Houston track report

Ben Hudson and the late Anne Burnett Tandy will be inducted into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame at a ceremony Saturday night. Both represent the Quarter Horse industry, and their inductions are timed to coincide with the Quarter Horse meet at Sam Houston.

Will Farish and Nelson Bunker Hunt also will be inducted into the Texas Hall this year, but during a ceremony at Lone Star Park in October.

Tandy was a longtime director of her family's 6666 Ranch, which was home to such top-class Quarter Horse stallions as Dash for Cash, Special Effort, and Streakin Six. She founded the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center and Museum, and is a member of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame.

Hudson is the publisher of Track Magazine, and became a member of the American Quarter Horse Association's racing committee in the late 1970's. He is also a director of that association, and is a past president of the Texas Quarter Horse Association.

The inductions, as well as a dinner and auction, will be held in the San Jacinto Suite at Sam Houston. Tickets are $50.

* Pat Day will ride in a charity match race against one of the leading riders at Sam Houston when he makes an appearance at the track on Sept. 10. Day is touring the nation to benefit the Racetrack Chaplaincy of America and will also be part of a charity luncheon the same day at Sam Houston.
