Sam Houston track report

Waupaca, who shipped in and won a March 4 turf allowance at Sam Houston Race Park, will return to Sam Houston next month for the Grade 3, $200,000 Connally Breeders' Cup Turf, said his trainer, Donnie Von Hemel. A 1 1/8-mile race, the Connally will be run on April 8.

Von Hemel said Waupaca, who is based at Oaklawn Park, will be ridden by E.J. Perrodin, who is a multiple winner of the Connally.

Waupaca earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 94 for his three-quarter-length win in the March 4 turf allowance, which was run at 1 1/16 miles. He is a five-time stakes winner and has earned $395,895. Waupaca races for Wayne Sanders.

Also pointing for the Connally is Seainsky, who won a turf allowance at Sam Houston on March 17 by three-quarters of a length over last year's Connally winner, Rapid Proof. Seainsky earned a Beyer of 88. Rapid Proof was making his first start since September and has long been pointed for this year's Connally.

* Pat Day, the retired Hall of Fame jockey, will be at Sam Houston on Sunday to take part in a special church service on the apron of the track's grandstand at 11 a.m. The service is open to all. Sam Houston is hosting the Race Track Chaplaincy of America's Chaplains School and Annual Meeting through Monday.
