Sam Houston track report


Ana Taylor will move back to the overnight ranks and dirt Friday night, when she starts as one of the top contenders in the featured seventh race at Sam Houston. The one-mile race is for 3-year-old fillies who have never won two races.

Ana Taylor faced stakes rivals on turf last out and finished sixth in the $80,000 Bedanken during the Fair Grounds meet at Louisiana Downs on Jan. 15. One start before, she was second in an optional claiming allowance. Trainer Jim Hudson has given the mount to Justin Shepherd.

* Kathy's Rocket, who was a 6 1/4-length winner of a division of the Texas Stallion Stakes last fall at Retama Park, is pointing for the $125,000 Two Altazano at Sam Houston on Feb. 18, according to her trainer, Tom Howard. A one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies, the Two Altazano is the Sam Houston division of the Texas Stallion Stakes. Kathy's Rocket worked a bullet four furlongs in 49.40 seconds last week at Oaklawn.

* Charming Socialite, Agrivating General, and Oncearoundtwice are among the Texas-bred stakes winners entered in Saturday night's $40,000 Jersey Village. It will be run at 1 1/16 miles on turf and is restricted to horses bred in Texas.

* Jockey Iram Diego fractured his arm when he was thrown from his mount in a race last Friday at Sam Houston. Diego is expected to miss the remainder of the meet. He ranks 12th in the standings at Sam Houston.

* There will be no live racing at Sam Houston on Sunday because of the Super Bowl.
