Sam Houston: A prep for Premiere


Agrivating General takes on a competitive group of Texas-bred stakes winners in the $40,000 Spring Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park. The seven-furlong race figures to produce starters for the Premiere Stakes on opening night at Lone Star Park on April 15.

Agrivating General won the Premiere last year. He returns from a four-month layoff in the Spring, and has worked well for his comeback. Agrivating General drilled a bullet four furlongs in 47.80 seconds on March 13. In his last start, Agrivating General finished a close third in the $100,000 Star of Texas at Sam Houston on Nov. 15.

Kerwin Clark has the mount for trainer Danny Pish.

Front Nine returned from a layoff in his last start, when he led throughout for a 1 1/2-length win in a five-furlong allowance at Delta Downs. He earned a 94 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest last race number among all starters in the Spring.

Trainer Tommie Morgan has given the mount to Cathleen Garner.

The field is completed by Leo's Last Hurrahy, Won CC, Term Sheet, Herve, Catalissa, and Seneca Rock.

* Remington Park in Oklahoma City will run 10 trial races on Saturday for the Lazy E Quarter Horse Futurity and Derby. The track's Quarter Horse meet will begin in earnest on April 2. First post on Saturday is 1:15 p.m. Central.
