Sam Houston offers dime supers

Sam Houston Race Park in Houston will offer 10-cent superfecta wagering on all races with seven or more betting interests beginning Thursday. The reduced-priced bet will be available on wheel and box combinations, making for a minimum superfecta wager of 20 cents.

The 10-cent minimum allows a bettor to include many horses in a superfecta for one-tenth the price of the typical $1 minimum. For example, a four-horse box that would cost $24 at the $1 minimum would cost $2.40 for a dime. Of course the payoff also is one-tenth the $1 payoff.

The bet is available ontrack at Sam Houston after the track received permission from the Texas Racing Commission. Sam Houston sent notice of the wager to its simulcast outlets on Monday, and those sites can take the wager if local regulations and tote technology allow.

"We are still a relatively new racetrack," said Bob Bork, president of Sam Houston, "and feel that by offering this highly affordable wager we will create excitement and attract some new fans."
