Sam Houston: Dominant trial effort stamps Especially Tres dangerous in Futurity

Especially Tres was not the fastest qualifier for Saturday night’s $452,800 Sam Houston Futurity for Quarter Horses, but she was the most impressive trial winner. She dominated by 2 3/4 lengths and the effort could send her to post as the favorite for the 330-yard race that highlights the meet at Sam Houston Race Park.

Especially Tres won her 330-yard trial in 16.99 seconds March 30, which was the third fastest qualifying time for the finale. She led throughout while increasing her advantage at each point of call. Ricky Ramirez was aboard and he will have the mount Saturday night for trainer Trey Wood. Especially Tres is a daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Dashair and races for Jim D. Pitts.

Trace Seis turned in the fastest qualifying time for the Sam Houston Futurity when she won her trial in 16.95 seconds. She won by a head over Paint Bug, who is the second fastest-qualifier for the Sam Houston Futurity.

The race is the richest offering of the 24-date meet for Quarter Horses that continues through May 18.
