Salute the Sarge headed to Walmac

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Walmac Farm in Lexington has purchased a half-interest in Southern Equine Stable’s two-time graded winner Salute the Sarge and will stand the horse in 2009.

Salute the Sarge is expected to make two starts, including one in the Grade 3 Kentucky Cup Sprint on Sept. 27, before retiring.

The 3-year-old Forest Wildcat colt won the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes and the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes in 2007. He also set a five-furlong track record of 58.29 last year in his debut at Hollywood Park. He has placed in three other stakes, most notably the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity and Norfolk Stakes. His record stands at 4 wins from 11 starts with earnings of $343,759.

Salute the Sarge, a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Chelokee and the stakes winner Mymich, is Southern Equine’s first stallion to stand in Kentucky.

Salute the Sarge is out of the Dixieland Band mare Dixie Ghost, a Grade 2 winner.
