Salty Farma best in Goddess Handicap

Salty Farma returned to racing over her best distance Saturday night and picked up her first career stakes win in the $100,000 Goddess Handicap at one mile at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

She finished two and a half lengths clear of runner-up Blue Guru, while it was another length back in third to Meteor Miracle.

Salty Farma($3.80) stalked pacesetter Sultry Fluff through a half-mile in 47.91 seconds, then took over from there and went on to cover the distance over a fast track in 1:39.20.

Lonnie Meche rode the winner for Edward Weaver and Larry Bielfeldt and trainer David Kassen. Salty Farma earned $60,000 for the win, which improved her record to 7 wins from 16 starts for earnings of $254,475. Salty Farma's last three wins have come at the one-mile distance of the Goddess.

* Meche also won the $50,000 Mademoselle on the undercard, when he guided Swamp Scare($14.40) to a wire-to-wire neck win in the five-furlong race for 3-year-old statebred fillies. Ultra Heat was second, a length and a half clear of favorite Itsmybag. Swamp Scare, who removed blinkers for the race, is trained by Wes Hawley.
