Salty Attraction seeks repeat

Salty Attraction returns to defend her title in the closing-day feature at Fonner Park when she faces five rivals in the $25,000 Al Swihart Memorial Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Salty Attraction has made just one start this season, finishing a game second to Lovesablumin in the Runza Stakes on March 22. She will be facing that rival again here but rates the edge with the prospect of an off track and a race now under her belt for trainer Mike Kirby.

Salty Attraction tuned up on April 22 with a strong five-furlong work in 1:01. Last year, she ran away from the field in this race to score by 10 lengths and owns a mark of 3-2-1 from

6 starts locally.

Lovesablumin, trained by Terrell Hemmer, was second in her first start of the season on Feb. 16 in the Bold Accent Stakes going a half-mile. She since has racked up consecutive wins in the Orphan Kist and Runza stakes and is the likely favorite with Beth Butler set to ride.

Plaer's Trump will be making her second start of the year for trainer Herb Riecken. Plaer's Trump was second to Lovesablumin in the Orphan Kist on March 1 coming off a 2007 campaign in which she won 4 of 5 starts.

* In the final race of the meet, a 1 1/8-mile starter allowance, Hot Chocolate, a non-factor in last weekend's $75,000 Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes, will come back on short rest in a race restricted to horses that have started for $5,000 or less the past two years.
