Sales Tax tops big tri at Colonial

Big payoffs lit the board at Colonial Downs after the Todd Pletcher-trained New York shipper Sea Chanter ran fourth at odds of 1-5 in the $60,000 Tippett for 2-year-old fillies.

Sales Tax, a maiden making her second start, stalked the pacesetters My Little Josie and Ashley's Dreamer, gained the lead in midstretch, and drew away to win by two lengths. My Little Josie held on for second at 6-1, and Valin Time rallied for third at 16-1.

Sent off at 18-1 under Malcolm Frankin, Sales Tax ran the 5 1/2 furlongs on turf in a quick 1:02.22 and paid $39.20. The $2 exacta paid $264, the trifecta $2,570.60.

Sea Chanter, coming in off a 6 3/4-length maiden win at Belmont Park, broke near the rear of the nine-horse pack, sat seventh till the stretch, then made a wide move and passed tired rivals to finish fourth.
