Sale-record price at Fasig-Tipton

Tashop, a Tapit half-brother to Grade 1 winner Miss Shop, got the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old auction going Monday with a record-setting $850,000 price.

Steven W. Young, agent, paid a Fasig-Tipton Midlantic record for the chestnut colt. The late Jack Dreyfus's Hobeau Farm consigned him to the Timonium, Md., auction as part of its dispersal. Cary Frommer was the selling agent.

The previous sale record was the $625,000 that Jeff Singer paid for Zounds in 2006.

Tashop's dam, the Private Account mare Shopping, produced millionaire Miss Shop in 2003. A Deputy Minister filly, Miss Shop won the 2007 Personal Ensign and five other stakes. Shopping also is the dam of stakes-winners Bought in Dixie and Shop Again, as well as Grade 2-placed Bulling.

Tashop sold as Hip No. 24. He was one of the sale's fastest workers at the under-tack previews last week, when he worked an eighth of a mile in 10.20 seconds.

The auction was to continue through Tuesday.
