Sale at Lone Star starts Monday

The Lone Star Park backstretch has been quiet since the meet ended July 13, but that will end Monday. The pitter-patter of yearling feet will fill the barn area as the track will host the Fasig-Tipton summer yearling sale.

There have been 310 yearlings cataloged to the one-day auction sponsored by the Texas Thoroughbred Association. The sale, to be held in a pavilion on the backstretch, begins at 10 a.m. Central.

* Kori Edison, the 3-year-old daughter of Sam Houston-based jockey Randy Edison, is doing well after undergoing heart surgery last Friday. The operation was the second on her heart. The first came when she was a newborn. Local horsemen have donated blood for the girl.

* Horsemen wishing to be in a group picture for terminally ill trainer Normie Thomas should meet in the Remington Park winner's circle at 1 p.m. Sunday. The photo will be blown up, signed, and sent to Thomas.

* Jockey Shane Romero was two wins away from career victory 2,000 going into the races Friday at Louisiana Downs.
