Sakhee will stand at Shadwell

Sakhee will be retired to Shadwell Stud in Norfolk, England, at the end of this season, the horse's owner, Godolphin, announced on Friday.

Although the announcement, which appeared on the Godolphin website, is not an official notice of retirement, Sakhee's future racing career had been called into question after a lackluster second-place finish in the Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville last month.

He was expected to run in Saturday's Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown as a prep for a defense of his Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe title, but was withdrawn after a so-so workout last week.

"We are obviously delighted at having Sakhee at Shadwell," said Richard Lancaster, the farm's manager, without making reference to any future races for Sakhee, a 5-year-old son of Bahri.
