Sakhee retired by Godolphin

Sakhee, the highweighted horse on the 2001 International Classification, has been retired by Godolphin after having failed to return to form while preparing for this Saturday's Champion Stakes.

The six-length winner of last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Sakhee came within a nose of beating Tiznow in the Breeders' Cup Classic but had disappointed in his last two starts this season. He finished third in the Dubai World Cup and second in the Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron.

Sakhee won eight races in 14 career starts for earnings of $3,069,954. He will stand at Shadwell Stud in England for 20,000 pounds ($31,245).

* Rebelline, the 4-year-old filly who ended Johannesburg's undefeated record when she beat him in the Group 3 Gladness Stakes in April, has also been retired. She suffered a recurrence of a muscle problem in her hip while preparing for the Champion Stakes.

* Sulamani, winner of the French Derby and second in the Arc de Triomphe, has joined Godolphin. A 3-year-old son of Hernando, he was purchased by the Maktoum-run stable and will soon depart for Godolphin's stables at Al Quoz in Dubai, where he will spend the winter.
