Runnin for Peanuts wins maiden in stakes

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Runnin for Peanuts rallied from just off the pace to break his maiden as he drew off for a 5 3/4-length win in the $10,650 Club House Special for 2-year-olds on Sunday afternoon at Columbus.

Running for Peanuts was coming off a second against maiden company here on Aug. 2. Trained by Justin Smith, he stalked the pace Sunday set by Sheer Class and Sweet Violet, then made his move into the stretch of the six-furlong race. With Jesus Ponce aboard, Runnin for Peanuts drew off under mild urging in 1:16.80 over a track labeled good. He returned $13.40 as the fourth choice in a field of eight.

C O Ringo, also a maiden coming off a second in his last start, settled for second, with Sheer Class another 3 1/4 lengths back in third. A 3-7 exacta returned $58.60 while the trifecta came back at $203.
