Runaway winners in both divisions


Favorites were upset by blowout winners Saturday night in both divisions of the $45,000 Texas Stallion Stakes at Retama Park near San Antonio. Lady Mallory($4.20) was a 10.75-length winner over 4-5 favorite Eagle Lake in the fillies and mares division, while Fitzroyal($5.80) was a seven and three quarter length winner of the male division over even-money favorite Most Feared.

Lady Mallory settled in sixth early in her division, while Eagle Lake led the field through fractions of 22 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.63 seconds for the half-mile mark. Lady Mallory took over from there, covering seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:23.34. Jeremy Beasley rode the winner for trainer Tommie Morgan.

Lady Mallory earned $25,361 for the win, which improved her record to four wins from 15 starts for earnings of $171,331 for her owner and breeder, Ed Few.

Fitzroyal led throughout in the male division, covering seven furlongs in 1:23.07. Gerard Melancon rode the winner for trainer Cole Norman.

Fitzroyal earned $27,747 for the win, which was his seventh from 19 starts. He has now earned $158,749 and races for Turf Express.
