Run Around Sue wins at Festival

Run Around Sue challenged through the far turn, then battled favored Irish Flyer to midstretch before edging clear for a 1 1/2-length win in Friday's $29,200 Falls Amiss Handicap at Horsemen's Park in Omaha, Neb. The victory, before an estimated crowd of 12,000, came on day two of the track's four-day Festival of Racing.

Ridden by Armando Martinez, Run Around Sue had to survive a claim of foul by Irish Flyer's rider for interference in midstretch. The pacesetting Irish Flyer came out a little in upper stretch, and then the winner came back in from right-handed urging near the sixteenth pole, but the contact appeared minimal and the result was allowed to stand.

Trained by Don Cheloha, Run Around Sue returned $6.80 as the second choice in the field of seven older Nebraska-bred mares. She covered the mile over a fast track in 1:41.60.
