The Rumor's True wins at the right time

OPELOUSAS, La. - Longshot The Rumor's True ($38.60) unleashed a strong rally down the stretch to outfinish odd-on favorite Rebel Queen and capture Friday night's filly division of the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Stakes at Evangeline Downs. It was another neck back to Addy Annie in third, followed by Twelve Stepper.

Ridden by Richard Eramia, The Rumor's True picked a good time to notch her first career victory from four starts. The 2-year-old daughter of Kafwain failed to qualify for the finale of the D. S. "Shine" Futurity earlier in the summer and most recently finished second in a 7 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race on the Louisiana Downs turf July 19. She is trained by Steven Duke, owned by Northpointe Thoroughbreds, and covered the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06.70 over a fast strip.
