Rule the Storm, Boundless Cat take Turf Paradise turf stakes


Rule the Storm and Boundless Cat both used their speed to capture the two stakes at Turf Paradise Saturday.
Rule the Storm bounced out to a clear lead and held it all the way around to capture the $35,000 Queen of the Green Handicap, and Boundless Cat led wire to wire while gamely rebuffing challenges to take the $35,000 Walter R. Cluer Stakes.
Rule the Storm, trained by Robertino Diodoro, was 2 1/2 lengths in front early in the Queen of the Green, a mile turf test for fillies and mares, and held her foes safe, winning by three-quarters of a length under Stephan Heiler. She ran the distance in 1:34.99 and paid $5.60 as the second choice in the field of seven.
The winner's share of $21,000 pushes Rule the Storm's career earnings to $251,846 from 10 wins in 26 starts. Table Mesa, the 7-5 favorite, chased the winner in second all the way around and ended up 6 3/4 lengths ahead of third finisher Taste's Sis.
Boundless Cat, trained by Robert Henson and ridden by Jake Barton, spurted to the lead from his rail draw in the Walter Cluer, also at mile on turf,  took pressure all the way around and held on for the neck win. He paid $11.80 and ran the distance in 1:38.26.
Boundless Cat earned $21,000 to give him a bankroll of $99,784 from six wins in 13 starts. this was his first turf outing.
Skimasco stalked the pace and finished gamely for second in the field of nine, while even-money favorite Waltzing With Blue finished strongly from far back for third.
