Rule headed to Sam Davis

Todd Pletcher, who will run Eskendereya in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park, has confirmed that he will send another of his Kentucky Derby hopefuls, Rule, to the Sam F. Davis at Tampa next Saturday. Rule, winner of the Grade 3 Delta Jackpot in his 2-year-old finale, is one of several Derby contenders owned by WinStar Farms.

"We decided to send Rule to Tampa because we've had good luck up there in the past with our 3-year-olds, such as Any Given Saturday and Bluegrass Cat," said Pletcher. "He's trained well and he's ready to run and I'm a little more comfortable sending him to Tampa than to the Fair Grounds."

Super Saver, another of WinStar's enviable contingent of Derby contenders, will have his second half-mile breeze since returning from the farm this weekend at Palm Meadows.

"He won't run until March, perhaps in a race like the Gotham or the Rebel," said Pletcher.

The Grade 3 Gotham is a 1 1/16-mile race at Aqueduct on March 6. The Grade 2 Rebel, also at 1 1/16 miles, will be run March 13 at Oaklawn Park.
