Ochoa remained unbeaten at 440 yards on Saturday when he edged Priceless Feature by a head in the Grade 1, $903,774 Rainbow Derby for Quarter Horses. The purse was the richest in the history of the race, which was run at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico.

Ochoa ($4.20), the champion 2-year-old of 2012, did not get the break in the Rainbow, but kicked into high gear in the late stages to win a multi-horse photo over Priceless Feature, with Jess Lips another head back in third. The fourth- through ninth-place finishers, meanwhile, were each separated by neck margins. Ochoa covered the distance on a fast track in 21.35 seconds.

With the win, Ochoa improved his record at the 440-yard distance to 4 for 4. He won last year's Grade 1 All American Futurity at Ruidoso at the distance, and also the trial for that race and the trial for the Rainbow Derby.

Roy Baldillez rode Ochoa for trainer Sleepy Gilbreath. The horse races for the partnership of J Bar 7 Ranch, Monte and Katsy Cluck and Douglas Benson. For the win in the Rainbow, Ochoa earned $379,586.
