Ochoa, who was a romping winner of last year’s All American Futurity for Quarter Horses at Ruidoso Downs, makes his first start since that September classic in Saturday’s trials for the Grade 1, $697,207 Ruidoso Derby. There will be six qualifying heats for the June 9 finale.Ochoa won the All American by 1 1/2 lengths last year. He was voted champion for his 3-for-4 season in which he earned $1.2 million. Roy Baldillez has the mount for trainer Sleepy Gilbreath. Feature Mr Bojangles, another champion, also makes his first start of the year Saturday’s trials at Ruidoso.
