'Ruckus' goes for 4

EDMONTON, Alberta - Timely Ruckus will have only three adversaries as he seeks to win the $50,000 Sun Sprint Championship for the fourth straight time Monday at Northlands Park.

Trained by Ernie Keller for a group of owners from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Timely Ruckus will carry high weight of 121 pounds in the 6 1/2-furlong Sun Sprint. As usual, Timely Ruckus will be ridden by Stephan Heiler.

Timely Ruckus enters with a streak of two straight victories and seeks his fourth win in his last five starts. An 8-year-old, Timely Ruckus won the G. Sydney Halter at Assiniboia Downs on on May 27.

Then, after running third at a mile to stablemate Rancour at Stampede Park, he finished in a dead heat for first with Run Joey Run here in the 6 1/2-furlong Journal and won a one-mile allowance race.

Timely Ruckus, Alberta's reigning sprint champion, drew the outside post for his first start in more than a month, while his main rival, Run Joey Run, will leave from the rail under Jamie Santos.

In his last race, Run Joey Run's late charge fell short and he finished third to stablemate Tyko Tycoon in the 1 1/16-mile Klondike. Run Joey Run, bought three years ago as a Canadian Derby prospect, seems equally at home at sprint and route distances. After rallying for the dead heat in the Journal, he came back two weeks later for a come-from-behind win in the one-mile Spangled Jimmy.

Likely competing for third place will be Vying Road, who will be ridden by Perry Winters, and Robnroy, with Quincy Welch aboard.
