Royal Ascot: Ward, Espinoza team with To Be Determined in Norfolk

Trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Victor Espinoza will team with To Be Determined, a filly by Elusive Quality, in Thursday’s $135,700 Norfolk Stakes over a straightaway five furlongs at Royal Ascot. To Be Determined was third in a maiden race at Churchill Downs last month, her only start.

To Be Determined is part of a field of nine in the Group 2 Norfolk, which includes Baitha Alga, a stakes winner at Epsom on June 7, and The Great War, unbeaten in two starts in Ireland. The Great War, bred in Kentucky by Claiborne Farms, was purchased by Smith, Tabor, and Magnier for $1 million at Keeneland last September.

Thursday’s principal race is the $636,225 Ascot Gold Cup over 2 1/2 miles. The field of 15 is led by Leading Light, who won the 2013 St. Leger in England, and Estimate, who won the 2013 Ascot Gold Cup for the Queen of England.
