Routes on tap for Calhoun juveniles

Coyote Legend and Tin Top Cat are being pointed to separate $125,000 divisions of the Texas Stallion Stakes at a mile at Sam Houston on Feb. 20, following their wins in a pair of seven-furlong stakes on the Texas Champions Day card Dec. 5.

Coyote Legend made his first start beyond six furlongs in the $50,000 Groovy and relished the added ground, winning by three lengths. For the effort, he earned an 81 Beyer.

"He's always wanted to run longer," trainer Bret Calhoun said of the full brother to multiple stakes winner Gold Coyote. "Really, I think going two turns is going to be his lick."

Tin Top Cat was making her first start since July in the $50,000 Bara Lass.

"It was a great performance from her, seven-eighths off the layoff," Calhoun said.

* Chris Landeros, the leading rider at Lone Star Park who finished in a tie for third at Remington, has moved his tack to Sam Houston.

* Sam Houston is offering a reduced, 12 percent takeout on its pick-three wagers this meet, the track announced Tuesday.
